About

Danielle Mason is a cultural preservationist, writer, and educator, who explores anthropology through the lens of folklore and African spiritual concepts.

As a collector of ancestral seeds of wisdom, Mason tells stories that honor the essence of the lands occupied by Black folks. Her belief in memory being a weapon that transforms the way we shape the future serves as the basis of her work in collecting and archiving the narratives of everyday Black women who imagine, desire, and seek to find safety in their unique truths.

Mason commits to the art of truth-telling by using writing as a way to navigate the heart as the landscape of one’s identity. Through experimentation and genre-bending, her work blurs the line between reality and imagination, by examining a belief in worlds that exist beyond the human eye.

Mason hosts quarterly Journaling to Heal creative writing workshops, that are designed to assist women in unearthing their innermost thoughts and emotions, through prompts that inspire wombs to speak on paper.

Mason received a B.A. in English from Prairie View A&M University in Houston, TX, and an MFA in Creative Writing from Mills College in Oakland, CA.
